Amaroo 2025 was a busy time for the Assisted Access team!
A wonderful crew of mainly New Zealanders with help from volunteers from Ireland, Australia, India and Thailand worked over several months to be ready to welcome Assisted Access guests.
55 guests and 22 carers registered for Assisted Access including 5 people in wheelchairs and 12 people with mobility walkers.
The temporary wheelchair area was appreciated and fully booked out! From the back of the Amphitheatre wheelchair guests had a direct view to the stage.
That rarest of things, a low floor bus with a ramp at the entrance, was also greatly appreciated. It was clear that some guests are unable to lift their feet or bend their knees, making the low floor bus essential for them to get to the events in the Amphitheatre.
The atmosphere in the Assisted Access marquee was quiet and relaxed with a lovely breeze aided by two industrial sized fans.
Amaroo presents the unique challenges of a bush environment; uneven ground and bush tracks, hot days and cold evenings and some long walking distances from the bus to the seating area and to the accessible bathrooms.
The guests who benefit most from Assisted Access are those with mobility challenges who have reasonable health and strength otherwise.
Guests considering coming to Amaroo with more serious medical conditions are asked to consult their doctor before travelling and if they do decide to attend, to travel with a dedicated carer who can support them throughout the event.
Please take care. The team looks forward to welcoming you again to the next Amaroo. Thank you to Evie for her lovely words, below.
Cath and the Assisted Access Team
Until this year I had never missed an Amaroo event. That is for 33 years. The last few events were a little challenging for me.
Assisted Access was a life savour. Lovely, caring people that made it all possible and seemless.
However my medical issues continued to increase and Prem continued talking about the fact we are getting older. So I made the decision that this year I wouldn’t be able to make it. It was such a difficult decision for me to make. Once made, I felt like I wasn’t missing out.
When the time came, surprisingly I was absolutely fine. I bought the Amaroo bundle from TimelessToday and watched it leisurely with my cat on my knee and a cup of tea.
I have so much to be grateful for in my life with Prem and my
Practice of Knowledge. Medically things can be a bit dodgy at times, but within myself I am fine.
My Amaroo days may be over but not the joy of my life.
I am so grateful.
